Maintaining a safe workplace environment should be a priority for both employers and employees alike. There are standards in Alberta for workplace safety. This is known as OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) Standards. Some considerations include:
|
Your Assignment:
1) Choose a career to research. Keep it mind that you should choose a career that you are ACTUALLY interested in pursuing. Create an appealing title page for this career that shows WHY you are interested in it.
2) Create a flow chart that demonstrates what you must do to achieve success in the career of your choice. You must determine:
- What post-secondary courses you will require (this includes the degree or certificate that you must leave with)
- What high-school courses and grades you will need to get into the required post-secondary program
- What grades you will require in each of your grade 9 cores in order to take the fastest route through high school.
- You must also decide what, if any extra-curricular activities may help you to be successful as you pursue your career.
3) Using the Google Doc template, create a resumé that you can give to potential future employers. For extra credit, you may also write a cover letter (see Mrs. B for formatting options).
4) You will be creating a comic strip to demonstrate your knowledge of Workplace Safety and Occupational Health and Safety Standards in your chosen career. Your comic should include:
- Common safety concerns in your specific job
- What accident(s) could occur
- How to prevent accidents from happening
- The consequence of safety accidents.
5) You will complete an essay that includes the following information. If you have volunteered in your field, include information learned. If you have spent a day observing your chosen career, add that information where appropriate. GOOD LUCK!
- Why you have chosen this career and why are you the "right fit" for it
- What duties you will be responsible for performing and how will you be compensated for it
- How does this career impact other people around you (family, clients, friends, etc)
- Opinion: What challenges will you face, what are you worried about and what are you excited about as you pursue this career. You may include insight from your volunteer hours here.
